Obesity: A Common Problem

Keeping your pet at an ideal body condition can add years to their life.  Animals that are overweight or obese are at risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, respiratory problems and many other life-threatening illnesses.  You can determine if your pet is overweight by looking at their body condition score.  Ideally, you want the score to be between 4 and 5.  If you feel like your pet is overweight we may recommend a few different things to help with weight loss
  • reducing the amount of food fed per day
  • increasing exercise
  • switching to a weight-loss diet or a prescription weight loss food
  • Slentrol: an appetite suppressant (www.slentrol.com)

Getting your pet to lose weight can be very difficult but don't lose hope it can be done!  Please feel free to visit www.projectpetslimdown.com to see some success stories.
